Introduction

There are four kinds of Malaria parasites that can infect humans: Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae.
The malaria  disease now occurs in 109 countries, and it is estimated  that around 250 million cases annually lead to approximately 1 million deaths (WHO 2008). At present, malaria is diagnosed by looking for parasites in a drop of blood with the below First Response® RDT kit by method based on principle of immune-chromatography.
First Response® RDT kit is intended for use by healthcare professionals and as qualitative screening in vitro diagnostic test for detection of Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae.


A. First Response® Malaria Ag. P/ falciparum (HRP2) card test

This test kit will detect P. falciparum specific HRP2 antigen in human blood.

B. First Response® Malaria Ag. pLDH / HRP2 Combo card test

Detects all 4  types of parasites i.e P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae.
Specific to Lactate Dehydrogenase (pLDH) of the Plasmodium species (Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae) and the other test of P.f. consists of a monoclonal antibody specific to Histidine-Rich Protein 2 (HRP2) of the Plasmodium falciparum (P.f) with hightech Nitro-cellulose membrane precoated with two monoclonal antibodies as two separate lines. One monoclonal antibody (test line PAN) is PAN specific to Lactate Dehydrogenase (pLDH) of the Plasmodium species (P. vivax, P. ovale and P. malariae) and the other line (test line P.f.) consists of a monoclonal antibody specific to Histidine-Rich Protein 2 (HRP2) of the Plasmodium falciparum.
