600 million tonnes equivalent in weight to more than 3 million blue whales and the amount of plastic in the ocean by 2050 if no action is taken!

In other words, if we are not taking global action now, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.

This fact motivated Real Relief to take action and the result is a Safepad made from regenerated plastics bottles reclaimed from the ocean and collected from the coastlines in South India. Safepad is a unique and innovatively design product that offers and infection-free experience to woman during menstrual periods.

As Trine Angeline Sig, the Managing Director at Real Real Relief, says: “It’s part of our DNA to create meaningful impact. One Safepad is made from 3 recycled plastics bottles and last up to 4 years which making it the most durable menstrual pad on the market. In addition, it is made from 100% polyester which makes Safepad very suitable for recycling.    

How are the Safepad from regenerated plastics bottles made?

The plastic bottles are collected at the coast lines of South India
Afterwards, they are sorted and cleaned
The bottles are torn into plastic flakes
Wich is converted into smaller granulates
The granulates are extruded and spun into yarns
The yarns are knitted into a modern and sustainable fabric
The soft fabric is used to make a Safepad
