Torben holds a university degree in chemical engineering and textiles from the Technical University in Esbjerg (today Aalborg Universitet).
In his career Torben has gained invaluable experience from all parts of the value chain from research and development to after sales service. Yet the last 20 years, he has been working within the humanitarian sector – bringing new and innovative products to the field fast and reliably.
Real Relief has a widespread network of suppliers, manufacturing the whole range of core items like SupertowelTM, SafepadTM and ReliefnetTM, but also standard humanitarian products like sleeping mats, tarpaulins, jerry cans and kitchen sets. Torben is responsible for this network of suppliers all while ensuring that Real Relief remains competitive in areas such as
Torben is the technical visionary in Real Relief and the work that lies closest to his heart is new product development. He spends as much time as possible reflecting on the problems faced by the humanitarian world and how new products with innovative features might help overcome these problems.
When asked about his favourite project Torben says: “I started working with hand hygiene 5 years ago and it has been a long exciting process which has led to the development of the SupertowelTM, a reusable and highly durable towel that includes a permanently bonded anti-microbial layer, designed to provide clean hands without using soap and using only a small amount of water. Every year, 1.8 million children do not live to celebrate their fifth birthday because of diarrheal diseases and pneumonia. Handwashing is among the most effective and inexpensive ways to prevent these diseases.
For me SupertowelTM is a beautiful example of what can be achieved when the humanitarian and the private sector sit down together and really put their heads together to solve a very real and serious problem”
Trine holds an Academy Profession Degree in Commerce Management from Hobro Sales & Export Academy, Denmark, as well as a Master in Narrative Therapy, from Dispuk Academy in Århus, Denmark.
Trine has more than 20 years of experience within the field of Aid & Relief work, hereunder with Ministries all over the world, various UN organizations as well as numerous NGOs with which Real Relief has secured important Long-Term Agreements for a number of core products.
From the very beginning of her career, Trine has been involved in and has been a front fighter par excellence of women’s rights and the female cause in general and on a global scale.
As Trine says herself: “I am on a mission to inspire, empower and connect girls and women to change the world. There are so many girls not being able to get an education because they don't have access to menstrual hygiene. It is time for action – don’t leave our girls behind.”
Her Period pride campaign has made significant difference in the perception of Menstrual ...
In 2018 SafepadTM was awarded the prestigious Danish Design Award-the Danish Design Award (DDA) jury said:
“In many places around the world, myths and taboos surrounding menstruation have unfortunate consequences, sometimes making girls and women stay home from school or work during their period. One of the causes is lack of access to sanitary pads or proper sanitation. The reusable sanitary pad addresses this problem and offers a sterile and durable solution. An innovative product that prevents infections while also helping to prevent the social isolation of girls and women in third-world countries.”
Trine envisages making Safepad available to every woman, everywhere at any time. The first 3 of hopefully many local Safepad production facilities in-country in view of empowering vulnerable women and young girls in their self-sustainability and self-worth, are now successfully running.
