Introducing the Salamati Circle: A Safe Space for Afghan Women to Connect, Heal, and Thrive

At Real Relief, we believe that dignity, mental well-being, and social connection are as essential as income when it comes to empowering women. That is why we are proud to introduce the Salamati Circle — a new initiative designed to create a safe, supportive space for Afghan women to share, engage, and prosper.

“Salamati” means well-being — and that is exactly what this initiative aims to restore.

Since August 15, 2021, Afghan women have faced growing isolation due to severe restrictions on movement, education, employment, and social life. These constraints have had a devastating impact on the mental health and emotional well-being of women and girls across the country. Many are left without access to any form of mental health support — suffering in silence and isolation.

In Partnership with SafePath Prosperity

The Salamati Circle is made possible through the tireless and inspiring work of our local partner, SafePath Prosperity, in Afghanistan. Their deep commitment to women’s rights and community well-being has laid the foundation for a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where women can begin to reclaim their voice and agency.

More Than a Workplace

At the heart of this initiative are the Safepad Production Centers, where women produce antimicrobial reusable menstrual pads in a culturally appropriate, inclusive, and dignified work setting. But these centers are much more than workplaces — they are hubs of connection, healing, and transformation.

The Salamati Circle lives within this space, creating opportunities for women to speak openly about topics often considered taboo — including mental health, domestic abuse, personal aspirations, and social pressure. It’s a space of trust and shared strength.

Advancing Participation and Mental Well-being

The Salamati Circle supports workforce participation, while also addressing psychological and emotional well-being. Women gain employment, yes — but they also gain community, self-esteem, and a vital sense of belonging. It is a model of holistic empowerment.

Through this work, Real Relief and SafePath Prosperity are jointly committed to creating safe, sustainable, and empowering opportunities for women — because no woman should be excluded from society, her community, or her future.
