Real Relief at Folkemødet: Music, Menstruation, and Meaningful Conversations

June 2025 – Bornholm, Denmark

Earlier this month, Real Relief proudly took part in Folkemødet – Denmark’s annual democracy festival that brings together citizens, politicians, NGOs, and changemakers to discuss the big issues of our time. This year, we helped put menstruation at the center of the national conversation.

In collaboration with Sex & Samfund and WaterAid, we co-hosted A Bloody Good Period – an unforgettable evening filled with bold dialogue, music, and community spirit.

🎤  From Debate to Dance: Breaking the Silence

The evening opened with workshops and a spirited quiz that challenged taboos and misconceptions around menstruation. This was followed by a powerful panel debate featuring voices from civil society, the UN, and the Global South — all united in exploring how we can drive real change around menstrual health, stigma, and access to solutions, both in Denmark and globally.

We asked: How do we create lasting change — and who holds the responsibility?
The answers were honest, intersectional, and inspiring.

🎶  Music Meets Menstruation

To close the evening, Nødhjælpsorkestret surprised and delighted the audience with a musical performance that celebrated menstruation like never before. With original songs about periods, they created a joyful, thoughtful atmosphere that had everyone smiling — and thinking.

Their performance reminded us that menstruation deserves not just conversation, but celebration.

💬  Thank You for a Bloody Good Period

A heartfelt thank you to our partners Sex & Samfund, WaterAid, and everyone who joined us at the event. You helped create a space filled with courage, presence, and engagement — the perfect recipe for social impact.
