Safepad Production Launched in Rwanda

Real Relief is proud to announce the official launch of Safepad production in Rwanda — a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to end period poverty and promote menstrual dignity for girls and women worldwide.

With this launch, Rwanda now has its own locally made antimicrobial reusable sanitary pad — produced in Rwanda, by Rwandan women, for Rwandan girls and women. This initiative goes beyond production. It represents a strategic step forward in local empowerment, sustainable health solutions, and innovation.

“Safepad Rwanda is more than a manufacturing site — it’s a symbol of ownership, opportunity, and resilience. We are proud to support a locally led solution to menstrual health, designed to meet both environmental and social needs,” says Karthik Thangavel, Project Lead at Real Relief.

Building Local Capacity

The facility not only enables access to hygienic, reusable menstrual products but also creates employment and skill-building opportunities for women in Rwanda. With antimicrobial treatment that ensures safe reuse, Safepad offers a dignified, sustainable alternative to disposable pads — especially vital in contexts where access to safe sanitation is limited.

Collaboration and Next Steps

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners, supporters, and the dedicated individuals who made this project possible. Your commitment has been instrumental in reaching this milestone.
